Tuoi Tre and Google host ‘AI for the Future Career' workshop to equip young workforce with practical AI knowledge and training for the future of work
Ho Chi Minh City, May 10, 2024, Google today partnered with Tuoi Tre to host ‘AI for Future Careers" - at the Ho Chi Minh Children House with the participation of over 2,000 students, along with educators and businesses.
The full-day workshop of ‘AI for Future Careers’ covered insights on how AI will shape the future of work and provided crash-courses on practical AI skill sets. At the event, Google also shared the details of all the available free resources for young workforces and announced the launch of 5-module training courses of Google AI Essentials under Google Career Certificate.
In the last few years, the advances in AI have started to power a significant shift in the technological landscape, comparable to the internet or mobile revolutions. And with 20% of the country's population composed of tech-savvy youths, Vietnam has a prime opportunity to leverage AI fully. The World Economic Forum predicts that AI will create 97 million new jobs by 2025. However, despite the rising demand for AI skills, only half of the workers have access to adequate AI training opportunities. As an AI-first technology company, Google has been working on a responsible approach to AI by helping users and society understand AI, its benefits, and—most importantly—building equal access to AI training opportunities.
Mr. Marc Woo, Managing Director of Vietnam, Google Asia Pacific, stated: “Latest research estimates that generative AI could add the equivalent of $2.6 trillion to $4.4 trillion annually. Vietnam National AI Strategy 2030 aims to transform Vietnam into a center of innovation, developing AI solutions and applications. We believe Google can contribute greatly in this space, capitalizing on Google's leading AI innovations and resources as well as our strong partnerships with local publishers, businesses, NGOs, and government authorities. The AI for Future Career workshop and the launch of Google AI Essentials courses today are among many more impactful initiatives that we are looking forward to Building for Vietnam, with Google AI.”
Marc Woo also added, “AI is not only changing how businesses are run, but how we define work itself. In Asia-Pacific, AI — together with cloud computing and cybersecurity — is one of the most in-demand advanced digital skills and has become a powerful advantage for those in the job market. And at Google, we are very committed to ensuring that everybody can benefit from AI, and we believe that skilling is the first step."
At the AI for Future Career workshop, participants heard from experts in HR services, medical services, and education. They also gained hands-on experience with Google’s latest AI-built-in products and joined a casual Fireside Chat ‘Ask Me Anything about AI' with the country's #1 tech-forum moderator and social content creators.
"It's remarkable to see such a rapid transformation in the labor market,” said Mr. Tran Xuan Toan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, at the event. "We have been accompanying career guidance activities for young people for 13 years and have witnessed the development of English gradually becoming an indispensable skill for the young workforce, but that process took 5-10 years. With AI, the use of this technology has become essential almost as soon as it appeared. We aim to disseminate this awareness to young people as soon as possible."
For the first time at the "Google AI for Future Careers" event, more than 400 students were trained to practice AI skills in two sessions led directly by Google engineers. Google also introduced many courses to equip Vietnamese youth with digital and AI skills, completely free of charge.
